Kerrie Daniels runs a small rescue in the Ceiriog Valley near Llangollen with her partner Paul and daughter Keighly. In the past Kerrie has worked for various Animal Trusts and is very experienced in animal care. The dedication this family display is just totally beyond belief, their personal needs coming second to those of the animals they rescue.

Just some of their recent activities include the following:

Ellie who was found on the road, she had been hit with a shovel in the face. Some people would have passed by, some would have taken her to the vet to be put to sleep, but these people took her to their vets, had her operated on and jaw wired – this lovely tabby is ready for rehoming.

Rooney had been kicked by his owner which broke his rib and perforated his bowel. Until recently Rooney was still receiving veterinary treatment, he recently had a number of tests which indicate physically he’s fine but is suffering from psychological problems resulting in digestion problems. Recently his condition improved when his diet was changed from dry food to raw meat and he has Bach Rescue Remedy daily.

Mister Snuggles had to have 5 teeth extracted when they rescued him due to his mouth being in a mess. Now rehomed with the author of this text.

Moydrum : This gorgeous ginger boy with FIV is also diabetic, Kerrie and Paul pay for his daily diabetic injections – he will be very difficult to rehome due to the expense of his future treatment, but if he isn’t rehomed then he will stay with them

Recently homed Minx: Kerrie and Paul were desperately trying to catch a stray cat who looked ill on an industrial estate in Oswestry. Caught after 2am in the morning, they took her to the vet. She was FIV+ but FELV-, they brought her on and found a responsible adopter.

Feral cats also find a home at this haven. Each has its needs addressed and awaits a suitable home.

Horses also find their way to Berwyn Animal Sanctuary, many finding homes quite quickly due to Kerrie’s proactive approach to rehoming them, though Miller - a horse with skin problem, still awaits her loving home.

With dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, hedgehogs and the odd pheasant too – although cats make up the vast majority of ‘guests’, no animal in need is ever turned away.
Of course the work they do results in vet bills which would be feared by the general pet owner. Luckily they receive excellent veterinary treatment and support from Mark Overend at Cain Vets in Llansantffraid.

The animal housing is all self built. Yes they dream of new, purpose built animal housing, but all of their animals are safe and warm with their heat lamps, also the food is plentiful.

Support has been sought from a number of sources and those who have responded include: Wetnose who helped with their vet bill; Hills, the feed they use on most of the cats, they donated a sack of cat food ; Station House Exhibitions will develop a website for them and host it for free; a kennel, hutch, towels and blankets from a Freecycle advert; friends and local community are also donating items for a car boot sale, hopefully in the spring this will help to raise some funds, Pontfadog Post office who now have a collection box in the shop.

There are times when the emotional strain of this purpose in life becomes a little too much and during those times the support of other people, their positive gestures and aid and organisations like Wetnose, helps people like Kerrie and Paul to keep on helping the animals in need.

Wetnose has a copy of Kerries vets bill and has paid off £ 200 and will help again.
